Ultrasound

Today was our first ultrasound. Yes, I said first...meaning there are more to come - yay!

I got out of work early (took a 1/2 day) and drove to the clinic. I sat in my car because I didn't know when MB was going to be coming and if he would want to grab lunch. I actually sat in my car and played video poker - people musta thought I was nuts!! Anyway, MB calls me to let me know he's on his way and will be there right on time. I decide to go inside to pee and sit and read a magazine. I'm not inside long when he walks in - we of course hug and say our hellos. I then explain to him that I didn't sign in because they are so fast at this clinic that I would have been called before he got there. I don't know if he believed me until I signed in and the nurse was waiting behind me - she called my name the minute I walked away. We went back to the ultrasound room (which is entirely too small, by the way). I got all ready and the nurse had MB stand behind her shoulder so he could see the screen - meaning I couldn't see it. So this is all I hear from her:

Ok, we have one gestational sac. {moves the wand around a little more in there} And there's the yolk sac. {points to the screen for MB} Hmmm...we may have a fetal pole but it's very small. {moves the wand around MORE} Oh yes, there it is {points to the screen again}. And, we have a heartbeat! {points to the screen to show MB the heart beating away}.

YAYAYAYAYYAY!!! I was so nervous at the beginning of that when she was just talking about the gestational sac...I was beginning to wonder if we had a blighted ovum. I felt so much better when she mentioned the yolk sac! And of course the fetal pole and heartbeat were the kickers!

We were then sent back to the waiting room because I had to meet with a nurse. Of course this part took forever. We were waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally we get called back for the normal stuff - height, weight, blood pressure, etc. We go and sit with the nurse and she goes over all kinds of stuff with us - my meds, symptoms, ways to help with nausea, etc. She was very nice and was good with explaining things to us. She sent me to get bloodwork and told me to come back in two weeks for a repeat ultrasound.

So, we have a beautiful, healthy baby with a wonderful heartbeat! M&M - I am so happy for you! I can't wait to share this pregnancy and journey with you. And I am so excited for the day I get to make you daddies! *hugs*

*And on a side note, I have decided to stop using M1 & M2 - that makes it sound like one is more important than the other, which is very untrue. I will now be using MA and MB and anyone who knows them, will understand why ;-)
